Facebook Pages Update for Restaurants

Following Google, Facebook is continuously investing in new features for local businesses. On August, 6th Facebook introduced updates to Business Pages, among them are new features for restaurants. They bring new possibilities, especially for the direct Call-to-Actions (Reviews and Reservations).

Facebook Reviews are now Recommendations

Facebook says goodbye to the well-known star rating. There is still a scale of 5, but this is now measured in points. Now, a reviewer is asked if he / she would recommend the business. After answering Yes or No, predefined tags can be selected and at least 25 characters of text must be written. This is a good development, especially to get a better understanding of negative reviews.
Obviously, it’s not just the new recommendations and existing reviews that are crucial for the rating. The online experience will now also be included in the calculation. For example, how long the response time is for requests via chat. We keep you up to date on these developments.

At the moment, we are also observing that many of the recommendations about a restaurant made by users to their friends have already been loaded between the existing reviews. Of course only if the post was “public” (depends on the privacy settings!).

“More than 80 million businesses have a Facebook business page”

We recommend taking note of these “old” recommendations. We will also look closely at what data will be displayed on Facebook in the future. One advantage is that the recommendations can be submitted quickly via check-in at the location and the users usually share more photos with their friends.

Report Negative Facebook Reviews

Facebook makes it easier for page owners to report the reviews/recommendations which violate its Community Standards. This was more complicated in the past. So it’s another very positive development.

Direct Orders or Reservations are Possible

In the mobile version of Facebook or in Facebook Local App, businesses can add a call-to-action button that has a prominent place on the top of the page. Restaurants can use this option to connect to a delivery service or table reservation system.

Other New Functions for Facebook Pages:

Apart from the above-mentioned features that are rolled out step by step, Facebook launched a couple of other updates:

  • Increased visibility of your stories: use your stories, for example, as a “peek behind the scenes” and show more about what is going on in your restaurant/hotel
  • Customized business information: you can now feature such important information as the menu, opening hours, special offers, and recommendations more prominently on your Page
  • Events: Creating and promoting your events became easier on Facebook

  • Jobs: in the following months, it’ll be possible to post jobs on Facebook
